From Sundazed Records : In 1977, Dennis Wilson launched Pacific Ocean Blue, the first solo LP by a member of the world-famous Beach Boys. Portishead Third

Mel's album of the year (and we're only half-way thru'). Portishead meets Radiohead, but don't take his word for it -

"Third is utterly riveting and endlessly absorbing....It demands attention, requiring effort on the part of the listener, as this defies any conventions on what constitutes art pop apart from one key tenant, one that is often attempted yet rarely achieved: it offers music that is genuinely, startlingly original......All Music Guide.
Third is shaping up to be the must have album of the year....."

"The self-referential title of Fogerty's first album in three years is no mere play on words; this is as close as he's gotten in a long while to duplicating the loose swamp blues, country, folk, soul and rock that he so memorably created a template for in Creedence Clearwater Revival." - Amazon.com. From Analogue Productions 45 RPM Series

One of those rare combinations that occur only in the recording studio happened between John Coltrane and Kenny Burrell in 1958. The rhythm team of Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb, who were with the Miles Davis quintet, was enhanced by the suave, swinging piano of Tommy Flanagan. The chemistry of Burrell and Coltrane, the blend of guitar and tenor saxophone in a mix of originals and standards; is evident throughout.

When Riverside Records recorded this John Lee Hooker session in 1959, producer Bill Grauer asked the Mississippi moaner to play acoustic guitar, much in the manner he had years earlier, before coming North, plugging in, and creating "boogie lightnin'." The result, on which Hooker put his distinct stamp on tunes associated with Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Lightnin' Hopkins and Big Bill Broonzy, as well as a number of his own highly personal compositions, is a country blues classic.

From Sundazed 180 gram re-issues

"…Cluster 71 informs the following three decades... techno, experimental music and composition, leftfield hip-hop production, Krautrock, New Age, even latter-day dub, doing so not only from an adventurous and refreshingly non-academic vantage point, but also from a sonically clean, open space, a far cry from the noise recordings of today, where more often than not the medium and studio textures become an accomplice to the sounds themselves. Other musicians, not the least of which Cluster themselves, would carry these ideas on to their future work and refine them into what we know to exist today."

plus new releases from Moby Grape, Nico, and many more.

Classical Re-issues

Classic Records and Speakers Corner continue their re-issue of classical records including Decca titles Albéniz: “Iberia” / Turina: Danzas fantásticas, and Bruch: Scottish Fantasy / Hindemith: Violin Concerto reissued by Speakers Corner, which are both instore now.

Madeleine Peyroux with her latest release after 8 years, 'Careless Love' transverses country folk and pop through the warm and luscious sounds of her jazz roots. Neil Young - Greatest Hits $60

& Prarie Wind $52

It may be hard to believe, but 2004's Greatest Hits is not only the first retrospective Neil Young has released since 1977's Decade , it's the first ever single-disc (well, 2 LPs so that just blew that comment out of the water) collection of his best-known songs... it works as an all-business introduction for the uninitiated and as a concise summary for those not willing to travel down all the long, winding roads Young has traveled over the years. In other words, it's as good a compilation as it could have been. Another superb release from Classic Records on 200 gram vinyl plus a 200 gram coloured vinyl 7 inch single (600 grams all up ? - it certainly is heavy!!!)

Neil's official label for vinyl releases is now Classic Records, and "Prarie Wind" is now available.

Neil Young has seriously ruffled the American Right with his anti-war stance on his latest album. They have accused him of being an environmentalist, a tree hugger etc, etc. Gee Neil. You actually care about others and the world around you, you old Republican you. On ya mate! Neil is taking this album so seriously that he has organized to have the vinyl realease available in record time, and you can presently pick it up from us now. From Classic Records on 200 gram Vinyl. $48.00
